Watford Street – Strowan, Christchurch

The 2011 Christchurch earthquakes damaged Jim and Karen’s 1930’s character home in Strowan beyond repair.

When it came time to think about the rebuild, Jim and Karen engaged Richard Ormsby from X Design to come up with a house design that would both stand out, while remaining in keeping with the other character homes on the street.

The main feature of this home was to be its timber weatherboard cladding. With the scribers and facings to be hand cut, a painstaking amount of detail was required to achieve a high quality finish on this 300sqm home.

Complete and landscaped, the house sits on its site as if had been there for decades and upon entry, it is the finer details that make it a truly executive home. The team at Gareth Davis Builders made sure no element was overlooked and that each decision was in keeping with the client’s vision of a classic character home.
