In 2013, following the Christchurch earthquakes, Karen and I engaged Gareth Davis Builders to rebuild a home on the site of our severely damaged former house.
The new home was architecturally designed to be built of timber weather boards to both replicate the home we lost and reflect the homes in the street. The design required a significant amount of detail finish particularly in the exterior weatherboard cladding. Gareth’s skills and the skills of his preferred sub trades have given us a superb executive home while retaining the classical character lines on the exterior to mimic the surrounding homes. A tribute to his building skills is really summed up from the comments of two other builder acquaintances who have seen the finished product and both have commented on how well the finish work has been carried out. That is a tribute from other builders about a peer…there is no better recommendation.
In 2016, Karen and I decided to build our holiday home and it was a no contest decision to contact Gareth once again to build this house for us. The house has already attracted huge attention and has been entered in the
Architectural Designer’s Awards both for the design and build quality.
We can’t recommend Gareth and his team highly enough. If you are looking for a competent, quality building company who can handle the construction of your new home along with the changes you know you will make along the way, quietly, competently and with the minimum of fuss, Gareth is the man to call.
Karen and Jim – Strowan, Christchurch
Gareth and his team have done a number of jobs for us over the years – added an extra bathroom, built a fabulous deck, a new fence and now have just ripped out our kitchen and oversaw putting in a new one.
Gareth is fabulous, very tidy, always willing to go the extra mile (took all the rubbish to the dump) and does a wonderful professional job every time – he has an expert eye for detail. He also has a raft of skilled tradesman at his fingertips too! We have no hesitation in recommending him no matter how big or small the job is. He will be there when he says and we would never use anyone else.
Mike and Sandy – Merivale, Christchurch
I contacted Gareth on recommendation from a family member. I had purchased a number of pre-fab classrooms from earthquake damaged schools that I wanted turned in to transportable homes. Gareth not only carried out the transformation of these buildings, he also offered input and solutions in the design phase and provided direction on ways to stay within my tight budget. Gareth and his team are quality builders who I will certainly use in future and would not hesitate to recommend to others.

We took Gareth on to undertake our first real renovations that required fairly substantial work. Like many people, we employ professionals to do work that we just don’t know how to do. This however, can be unnerving as you are putting total trust in someone else.
From the moment Gareth and his foreman Dan arrived to assess what work was required, throughout the whole build and until completion, there was never a time we did not know what was going on. Further still, we were always told why something was being done. In fact, we learnt an awful lot about different construction methods and why it was done in a certain way.
In our case, we needed exterior windows replaced with double glazed units that were now stacker doors, external brickwork replaced with a modern cladding and resizing of windows in the kitchen area. In fact many of our decisions were based on reasoned advice given by Gareth.
The finish, both inside and out is quite exceptional. Advice was even given to us on how to complete part of the work that we wanted to undertake ourselves.
It is often said that any sort of building is a huge upheaval. This is correct to an extent but this was always kept as minimal as possible.
We would have no hesitation in recommending Gareth and his team to anyone considering building or renovation work. We know we have a great renovation and a builder we can trust for the future.
